Arrest of two teenagers after a false threat of a shooting at Leibniz School
Two teenage girls were arrested in Libnice after threatening to carry out a school shooting, causing panic among parents and authorities. The incident began on Sunday when parents reported rumors of a planned attack on Monday, believing the source to be 'reliable' and even from the police.
The Leibniz School rushed to calm fears, sending an email to parents reassuring them that there was no danger. The message stated: "As you may have learned from social media, a threat was directed at our school on Monday. I would like to reassure you: the police have already identified the person involved. There is no danger to the middle school."
The police confirmed that the threat was posted on social media and traced it to two girls aged 14 and 15. According to the spokesperson for the Styria police, Sabri Yurgun: 'The danger has been removed.' The two girls admitted during the investigation to making the threat, stating that it was just a joke and they had no intention of carrying it out.
The Education Directorate in Styria was immediately informed, and the police began an investigation into the background of the incident. Officials confirmed that even false threats of violence in schools are treated as serious crimes that may result in penalties including imprisonment and requiring the perpetrators to pay for police operations.
The authorities emphasized that there is currently no danger to the schools in Libnice. However, they warned that such threats are not a harmless joke, but carry serious legal and financial consequences for those involved.
