Germany Refuses to Join Iran War as Strait of Hormuz Crisis Escalates

Germany has ruled out joining any military mission linked to the Iran conflict, including operations to protect commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, Foreign Minister يوهان فاديبول confirmed.

Speaking to German public broadcaster ARD, يوهان فاديبول said Berlin has no intention of becoming actively involved in the war in Iran. He stressed that the German government has a clear position and does not plan to participate in any military operations related to the conflict.

The foreign minister noted that the government’s stance has already been clearly communicated by Chancellor فريدريش ميرتس and Defence Minister بوريس بيستوريوس. According to him, Germany will remain outside the conflict and will not send forces to the region.

He also said the United States and Israel claim their goal is to destroy Iran’s military capabilities, especially its nuclear and missile programs. Germany expects to be informed about developments and hopes to take part in diplomatic negotiations once the situation moves toward a political resolution.

Meanwhile, the European Union is discussing whether to expand Aspides (EU-missie Aspides / EU Aspides Mission), which was launched as Operatie Aspides (Operation Aspides) in 2024 to protect shipping in the Red Sea. However, يوهان فاديبول expressed doubts that extending the mission to the Strait of Hormuz would improve security, emphasizing that lasting stability will require negotiations with Iran rather than military action.
