Today's News: Focus on Kaohsiung Road Safety and ID Card Renewal
Today's news highlights public facility safety and administrative services in daily life. The maintenance of pedestrian spaces in Kaohsiung has sparked discussion, while barrier-free services in public transportation demonstrate social mutual aid. Additionally, the practical needs for ID card renewal and the application of artificial intelligence in university education are noteworthy developments today.
The pedestrian environment on Jianguo Road in Kaohsiung faces challenges. Due to some sidewalk pavements falling into disrepair, interlocking bricks have become uneven, forcing people pushing wheelchairs to abandon the sidewalk and walk in the slow lane instead, increasing the risk of competing with vehicles for road space. At the same time, the public transportation system continues to optimize its barrier-free environment. For example, a bus driver proactively stopped and set up a "bridge plate" (a portable ramp connecting the vehicle and the ground) for a passenger using an electric mobility scooter, helping the person with limited mobility board safely.
Regarding administrative services, if an ID card photo differs significantly from a person's current appearance due to age, it may cause difficulties during identity verification. In such cases, citizens can visit a "Household Registration Office" (the government agency responsible for household registration and issuing ID documents) to apply for a new card, ensuring the document's recognizability and legal validity.
Higher education is actively responding to technological changes, with humanities and social science departments in universities beginning to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their teaching programs. In courses such as cultural field internships, AI is used to help students organize interview transcripts, search for literature, and digest research materials. This initiative aims to help students learn how to use technological tools to refine arguments and improve research efficiency in the AI era.
