Safety Rules for Getting Off the Bus: How to Avoid Being Hit by Scooters
In Taiwan, buses are an indispensable part of many people's daily lives. However, the seemingly simple act of getting off a bus actually hides many dangers. Recently, many passengers have reported nearly being hit by scooters speeding through the right side of the bus when disembarking, an experience that can be quite terrifying.
This dangerous situation usually occurs when the bus does not pull up completely flush with the curb. When there is a gap between the bus and the curb, some scooter riders choose to speed through the right side of the bus to save time. For passengers about to get off, this is a visual blind spot, and if they are not careful, serious collisions can easily occur.
To protect their own safety, experts suggest that passengers should follow the principle of "pause, look right, then step out" before disembarking. When the bus doors open, do not rush off; instead, pause for a second. Next, turn your head to the right and carefully check if any scooters are approaching. Finally, step off the bus only after confirming it is safe, ensuring complete safety.
In addition to passengers needing to be more vigilant, traffic safety also requires the cooperation of scooter riders. When riders see a bus pulling over to stop, they should proactively slow down and maintain a safe distance rather than trying to overtake through the gap. Through the caution of passengers and the courtesy of riders, we can work together to create a safer road environment and reduce the occurrence of accidents.
