Kaohsiung Bus Route 248 to Become History, Officially Ceasing Operations on June 9
The familiar Kaohsiung Bus Route 248 is about to stop its service. According to the latest announcement from South Taiwan Bus, the 248 shuttle bus will officially cease operations on June 9 this year. This decision also means that Bus Route 248, which has operated for many years, will completely withdraw from the streets of Kaohsiung and officially become history.
Bus Route 248 began operations in 2007 and has served citizens for over 15 years. In its early days, the route's coverage was very extensive. After departing from Jianjun Station, the bus would first circle the Fengshan area, then follow the entire length of Zhongzheng Road into central Kaohsiung, and finally turn onto Qixian Road to enter Yancheng District. It was an important transportation artery connecting Fengshan and the city center at the time.
This route was once the top choice for many students going to school and commuters going to work. It connected Fengshan with several key points in the city center and witnessed the changes in Kaohsiung's urban development. However, with the opening of the Kaohsiung MRT Orange Line and the popularity of other transportation modes, the ridership and route function of Bus Route 248 were gradually affected, facing pressure to transform.
Although the main line of Route 248 has undergone several adjustments in recent years, the 248 shuttle bus has continued to serve citizens in certain areas. With the arrival of the June 9 cessation date, this iconic bus route will complete its mission. Many long-time passengers expressed that while they feel reluctant to see it go, they are grateful for the route's companionship over the years.
The Kaohsiung City Transportation Bureau and the bus company remind the public to use other alternative routes or public transportation after Bus Route 248 stops running. Urban transportation adjustments are made to provide more efficient services, and relevant authorities will continue to optimize the bus network in the future to meet the travel habits and needs of modern citizens.
