Protests erupt in Thai Parliament during visit by Myanmar leader
Recently, chaos erupted inside the Thai Parliament building when members of the House of Representatives staged a protest by shouting in front of Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of Myanmar's military junta, during his official visit to the Thai Parliament.
The incident occurred amidst a tense atmosphere, as the group of MPs who opposed the visit viewed the hosting of a welcoming ceremony for the Myanmar leader as inappropriate, given the ongoing instability and human rights violations occurring in Myanmar over the past period.
The protesters criticized the Thai government's actions, stating that providing such an official welcome was a 'new low' for Thai diplomatic strategy, which could impact the country's image in the eyes of the international community that prioritizes human rights and democracy.
The Myanmar leader's visit has become a closely watched issue, both in terms of relations between neighboring countries and Thailand's foreign policy, which remains a widely debated topic in Thai society and at the regional level.
