Thailand partners with Japan to advance semiconductor research through the Siam Silica project
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) has announced a significant collaboration with leading Japanese universities to elevate Thailand's technology industry, with a focus on the research and development of semiconductors, which are essential components in the production of electronic devices worldwide.
This collaboration is taking place under a project named 'Siam Silica,' involving a partnership between the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), Kyoto University, and Osaka University, all of which are world-class institutions specializing in engineering and advanced technology.
The primary goal of this project is to create a network that pairs Thai and Japanese researchers to exchange knowledge and technology in semiconductor production. Collaborating with experts from Japan will enable Thailand to develop the potential of its workforce and increase its competitiveness in the global market.
Semiconductor development is considered a key strategic priority for Thailand, as it is the core of the electric vehicle industry and various smart devices. Therefore, the collaboration under the Siam Silica project is a crucial step that will help Thailand move toward becoming a hub for modern technology production in the future.
In summary, this project not only promotes positive academic relations between Thailand and Japan but also lays a vital foundation for the development of a strong and sustainable digital economy in Thailand.
