Advancing 'Green Southern Thailand' Project: Pushing Phuket Toward a Global Medical Hub, Expected to Generate Over 75 Billion Baht
The Thai government has announced the advancement of the 'Thailand Greenest Cities' development plan, which marks a significant step in the systemic transformation of the southern region. The initiative focuses on urban development that prioritizes both people and the environment under the 'People and Planet First' concept, aiming to create long-term economic and social sustainability.
The core of this project is to push Phuket province to become a regional medical hub. Plans are in place to develop infrastructure and medical services that meet international standards, aiming to attract quality tourists and those seeking healthcare from around the world to utilize services in Thailand.
Beyond medical development, the project also encompasses the creation of clean energy municipalities and systematic environmental management to improve the quality of life for local residents and build an image of an eco-friendly tourist destination, which will help strengthen eco-tourism even further.
Preliminary estimates suggest that upgrading Phuket and the southern region will generate over 75 billion baht in revenue for the country, serving as a key mechanism to stimulate the regional economy and create sustainable jobs for local people.
Following this roadmap will be the starting point for transforming urban development models in Thailand, moving toward becoming fully-fledged smart and green cities. This will serve as a prototype for other provinces to develop their economies while simultaneously preserving the environment in the future.
