Supachai confirms cancellation of contributions to 4 organizations will not affect liquor and tobacco taxes
Mr. Supachai Jaismut, a Member of Parliament from the Bhumjaithai Party, has provided information regarding a proposal to amend the law to abolish the collection of contributions from liquor and tobacco operators intended for four major organizations, including the Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS) and the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth).
Mr. Supachai clarified that the cancellation of these contributions does not mean that operators will pay less money or that this portion of tax revenue will disappear. Instead, the government will adjust the excise tax collection method to ensure that this revenue continues to flow into the state coffers as usual, with liquor and tobacco operators still required to pay at the same legal rates.
This proposal aims to improve the state's revenue collection system to be clearer and more systematic, focusing on directing funds into the national treasury directly rather than allocating them through special contributions to various agencies as in the past, in order to ensure transparency in the management of the country's budget.
However, this issue remains under close scrutiny from various parties, as the four organizations receiving such support play significant roles in social, health, and public media operations, which could be affected by this structural change in revenue.
In summary, this action is merely an adjustment to the government's tax collection channels. It is confirmed that operators in the liquor and tobacco industries will not see a reduction in their tax burden, and the government will continue to receive revenue from this source to be used for the country's ongoing development.
