Ministry of Public Health reveals 55 medical facilities temporarily closed due to flooding, while accelerating flood response planning

The Ministry of Public Health has reported on the progress of the 2026 flood situation, with Dr. Sophon Iamsirithavorn announcing the impact on medical facilities in affected areas nationwide. Currently, 55 medical facilities have had to announce temporary closures due to high flood levels, making it impossible to access the areas as normal.

However, the Ministry of Public Health maintains that 88 other medical facilities in the affected areas remain open to provide services to the public as usual, ensuring that patients continue to receive necessary medical care during this crisis. Local public health officials are working at full capacity to ensure the safety of patients and medical personnel.

Regarding long-term response, the Ministry has drawn lessons from the major flooding in Hat Yai to improve disaster management plans. The focus is on stockpiling essential medicines and medical supplies, as well as ensuring sufficient food for patients and staff. Furthermore, electrical and oxygen supply systems within medical facilities are being upgraded to ensure they are safe and operational even in emergency situations.

This flood situation serves as an important lesson for the preparedness of the Thai public health system. The Ministry will continue to monitor the situation closely and assess the damage to the closed medical facilities in order to expedite their reopening as soon as water levels recede and the situation returns to normal.
