Thailand and Malaysia Open New Sadao Border Checkpoint to Expand Trade and Border Tourism
The governments of Thailand and Malaysia have jointly opened the new Sadao Customs House in Songkhla Province to strengthen relations and promote economic cooperation between the two countries. The opening of this checkpoint is a successful outcome of the Thai government's visit to Malaysia, which focused on infrastructure development to efficiently connect both nations.
The main goal of opening the new Sadao checkpoint is to increase the trade value between Thailand and Malaysia to 30 billion USD. It focuses on facilitating trade, investment, and cross-border logistics, which will help the economy in Southern Thailand and Malaysia's border areas grow rapidly.
In addition to overall trade, both countries have agreed to resolve significant trade barriers, particularly the export of shrimp and sea bass from Thailand to Malaysia. Unlocking these restrictions will enable Thai farmers to export agricultural products more easily and help create stable income for local communities in the long term.
Regarding tourism and security, the opening of this new checkpoint will make travel more convenient for tourists, benefiting hotel and restaurant businesses in border areas. At the same time, both sides prioritize border security to build confidence for citizens and investors doing business in the region.
This cooperation is considered a significant step in strengthening the ASEAN region. Developing infrastructure and jointly solving trade issues will not only increase economic value but also help build good and sustainable relationships between the people of both countries in the future.
