Ministry of Public Health upgrades community hospitals, focusing on proactive healthcare

The Ministry of Public Health has announced a new policy to develop Thailand's health system, with the key goal of upgrading community hospitals to serve as hubs for primary healthcare. This is intended to ensure that local residents can access medical services more conveniently and rapidly.

The core concept of this transformation is to shift from a focus on "treating diseases" after patients have already fallen ill, to a proactive approach of "caring for people." This means promoting health and preventing diseases before severe symptoms occur, in order to reduce the burden on large hospitals in urban areas.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary for Public Health stated that a strong health system must begin at the primary or community level. Adjusting the role of community hospitals will enable medical personnel to monitor the health of local residents more closely and continuously.

This policy is considered a significant step toward creating public health equality for Thai people nationwide. It is hoped that this restructuring of operations will help improve the quality of life for citizens and reduce the rate of chronic illnesses within communities in the long term.
