MHESI partners with alliances to overhaul research funding system, focusing on Deep Tech innovation
The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) has announced a major partnership with the Technology and Innovation-based Enterprise Development Fund (TED Fund) and the National Innovation Agency (NIA) to reform the management of university research funding for greater efficiency, with a focus on creating Deep Tech innovations to drive the country's economy.
The core of this collaboration is the establishment of a University Holding Consortium, which shifts the traditional approach to managing university intellectual property. Instead of measuring research success solely by the number of publications, the focus will now be on outcomes that can be practically applied commercially and that create added value for Thai industries.
This systemic shift will reduce cumbersome procedures and provide greater agility for researchers and young entrepreneurs. Universities will take on a mentorship role, bringing research out of the laboratory and into the market through funding support and intellectual property management that is more conducive to business operations.
Furthermore, this collaboration aims to build a robust innovation ecosystem, enabling universities to become hubs for incubating high-tech businesses. This will enhance Thailand's competitiveness on the global stage and create opportunities for Thai research to grow into sustainable businesses in the future.
