Government to finalize excise tax measures for electric vehicles within 1-2 weeks
Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Director-General of the Excise Department, revealed that the Ministry of Finance is currently accelerating the consideration of excise tax measures for the import of electric vehicles (EVs). A clear conclusion is expected within the next 1-2 weeks, which will be used as a mechanism to ensure the sustainable growth of the domestic automotive industry.
This action follows a resolution by the National Electric Vehicle Policy Committee (EV Board), which aims to strike a balance between supporting EV adoption in Thailand and protecting domestic automakers. The government is prioritizing the restructuring of taxes to align with changing market conditions.
These measures focus on creating fairness for operators in the Thai automotive industry so they can remain competitive in the global market, while simultaneously encouraging the public to switch to clean energy vehicles to reduce pollution and work toward the country's carbon neutrality goals.
