Pheu Thai Party pushes for Peace-Building Act, accelerating remedies for all groups affected by politics

On September 22, Ms. Praphaporn Thongpaknam, Member of Parliament for Sukhothai and Deputy Spokesperson for the Pheu Thai Party, revealed progress regarding the push for the Peace-Building Act, aimed at resolving the political conflicts that have occurred in Thailand over the past several years.

Pheu Thai Party has a key objective of fostering reconciliation within Thai society, focusing on providing remedies and restoring rights to citizens affected by past political protests. This includes individuals from various factions, whether they be the Red Shirts, the People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD), the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), or the Ratsadon group.

Currently, the party is accelerating coordination with representatives of various political groups, requesting them to compile lists of individuals who have been affected and suffered damages from past political events, in order to bring this information into the legal review process in a fair and transparent manner.

The main goal of this operation is to restore rights and provide assistance to those affected as quickly as possible, in order to reduce conflict and create a positive atmosphere in Thai society. Pheu Thai Party affirms that it will act as a coordinator to ensure that all parties receive justice in accordance with human rights principles.

Pushing for this Act is considered a significant step for the government in its attempt to end past divisions. It remains to be seen how the process of compiling lists and the legislative review in the House of Representatives will unfold, and whether it will lead to sustainable peace.
