Department of Mental Health partners with OBEC to enhance 'Psychological First Aid' skills for teachers nationwide, turning schools into safe spaces
The Department of Mental Health, in collaboration with the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), is moving forward with a project to elevate mental health care for educational personnel, focusing on guidance counselors and advisory teachers who serve as the front line in caring for students across the country.
The primary objective of this initiative is to equip teachers with 'Psychological First Aid' skills so they can effectively handle potential violence in educational institutions, as well as provide timely counseling and assistance to students experiencing stress or emotional issues.
In addition to providing knowledge, the project focuses on transforming the school environment into a 'safe space' for both physical and mental well-being, ensuring that schools are places where students and teachers can live and learn happily without anxiety.
This collaboration between the two agencies marks a significant step toward the sustainable prevention of school violence by building a network of teachers prepared to manage mental health, which will have a positive long-term impact on the development of Thai youth.
