Medical Miracle: Cancer survivor gives birth after 23 years of ovarian tissue cryopreservation
A major medical breakthrough occurred when a foreign woman successfully gave birth to a child after undergoing cancer treatment 23 years ago. At that time, she made the decision to preserve her own ovarian tissue through cryopreservation for the chance of having children in the future.
The process began when she was young, with surgeons removing a piece of ovarian tissue responsible for egg production. It was then subjected to a deep-freezing process at extremely low temperatures to preserve the quality of the tissue and keep it in its original state for as long as possible.
Decades later, after she had recovered from cancer, doctors re-implanted the frozen tissue back into her body. The results showed that the tissue was able to function normally, allowing her to conceive and successfully give birth to a healthy child as she had intended.
This achievement serves as a new beacon of hope for cancer patients of reproductive age, as chemotherapy or radiation therapy often impacts the reproductive system. Ovarian tissue preservation is therefore an option that allows these patients the opportunity to start a family after overcoming the most difficult periods of their lives.
Currently, ovarian tissue cryopreservation technology is becoming more widely known and is being continuously developed in many countries around the world, including Thailand, where reproductive medical technology is as advanced as anywhere else, helping patients improve their quality of life and fulfill their dreams of having children in the future.
