OCPB moves to tighten control over influencer product reviews, aiming to elevate standards for Thai entrepreneurs
Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, together with the Office of the Consumer Protection Board (OCPB), has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to enhance consumer protection in Thailand, making it more stringent and effective. The initiative focuses on regulating online media and promoting transparency among small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
A key point of this signing is the regulation of product advertising via influencers, who currently play a significant role in the purchasing decisions of many consumers. The OCPB aims to ensure that product reviews are accurate and fair to prevent consumers from being deceived by false or exaggerated information, a common issue found on social media today.
Furthermore, this collaboration focuses on pushing the 'Trusted SMEs' project to establish standards for small-scale entrepreneurs by encouraging businesses to operate honestly and responsibly toward their customers. This will help build greater consumer confidence when choosing to purchase goods and services from Thai entrepreneurs.
This proactive operation by the OCPB marks a significant step in adapting to consumer behaviors that have shifted in the digital age. It is expected that these measures will help reduce exploitation and create a fair trading environment for all parties in the long term.
