Anutin emphasizes at UN forum: Thailand is ready to negotiate with Cambodia on overlapping areas, supports UN reform
Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, attended the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, where he expressed Thailand's key positions on the global stage.
A significant issue addressed by Mr. Anutin was the relationship between Thailand and Cambodia, particularly regarding the overlapping maritime areas. Mr. Anutin affirmed that Thailand is committed to resolving the issue through diplomatic negotiations, primarily using the framework of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to ensure fairness and mutual benefit for both countries.
In addition to international relations, Mr. Anutin also proposed concepts regarding the reform of the United Nations (UN), emphasizing that the working structure should be improved to ensure that all member states have a greater role and voice in decision-making, so that the UN can be an organization that truly and equally reflects the opinions of the international community.
This attendance at the assembly serves to demonstrate Thailand's proactive role on the international stage, reaffirming that Thailand prioritizes the use of peaceful means and negotiations to resolve disputes, as well as supporting the work of international organizations to be more effective.
