EC faces crisis of confidence after voting to prosecute 77 Senate candidates over election collusion
The Election Commission (EC) is facing heavy criticism after voting 5 to 2 to prosecute 77 Senate candidates in a case involving election collusion or the organized formation of groups to vote for one another, an issue that is currently impacting the image of the independent organization.
Mr. Adisorn Piengkes, a Member of Parliament, expressed his opinion on the matter, stating that this incident has left the EC facing a severe crisis of public confidence, as the investigation and decision-making process have raised questions regarding transparency and fairness.
Furthermore, Mr. Adisorn advised that the EC must urgently find ways to restore public trust as soon as possible. He warned that if the skepticism is allowed to persist, it could impact the credibility of the new Senate, as well as long-term confidence in Thailand's democratic system.
At present, the public and various sectors are closely monitoring the progress of this case, as the court's verdict will directly affect the status of the 77 candidates and serve as a crucial test of whether the EC can maintain professional standards acceptable to all parties.
