Warning! Thailand prepares for continuous heavy rain, risk of flash floods
The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for citizens to monitor the situation regarding heavy rainfall across many areas of Thailand during this period, which may lead to flash floods and forest runoff in vulnerable areas. Citizens are advised to closely follow weather forecasts to prepare for potential situations.
The main cause of the current heavy and prolonged rainfall is the southwest monsoon, which is bringing moisture to collide with a low-pressure trough passing over Thailand, resulting in large rain clouds and high accumulated rainfall in many areas.
Furthermore, there is an additional factor from a cold air mass moving down from China, which, when colliding with the hot and humid air in Thailand, further triggers thunderstorms and heavier-than-normal rainfall. This causes low-lying areas and areas near waterways to be at high risk of flooding.
Relevant agencies have warned citizens living near foothills and riverbanks to be extra cautious during this time. They should store valuables in high places and prepare for evacuation if the situation becomes more severe.
Citizens can follow real-time weather reports through the Thai Meteorological Department's channels and should strictly follow the advice of local officials for the safety of their own lives and property, as well as that of their families.
