PM Opens THAIDEF-EX 2026, Supporting Defense Industry and Promoting Concepts for Peace and the Economy

On July 8, 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the opening ceremony of THAIDEF-EX 2026 at the Office of the Permanent Secretary for Defence (Sri Saman), Pak Kret District, Nonthaburi Province. The event was organized to showcase the progress of Thailand's defense technology and industry, with a large attendance of high-ranking officials and experts.

The Prime Minister emphasized a key policy to drive Thailand's defense industry toward greater self-reliance. The government aims to support domestic research and production of military equipment to reduce reliance on imported weapons and technology from abroad, which will help ensure long-term security for the Thai Armed Forces.

Beyond security, the event also focused on economic competitiveness. The government views the defense industry as a high-potential new industry. If Thailand can develop its own technology, it will help create jobs and generate revenue from exporting technology to other countries in the ASEAN region and the global market.

During the opening speech, the Prime Minister used the slogan "Make Love, Not War" to communicate that this development of military technology is not intended for warfare or aggression. Instead, it is about preparedness for national defense and, most importantly, maintaining peace for the people.

THAIDEF-EX 2026 is considered a significant step demonstrating Thailand's readiness to become a leader in defense technology. It emphasizes the integration of national security and sustainable economic growth for the maximum benefit of the country and the Thai people.
