Cabinet approves MOU to import 10,000 workers from Sri Lanka to address labor shortages in Thailand
The Thai Cabinet has officially approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on labor cooperation between the government of Thailand and the government of Sri Lanka to promote cooperation between the two countries and address labor shortages in Thailand.
The signing of this agreement aims to import 10,000 workers from Sri Lanka, focusing on filling gaps in industrial sectors that are currently experiencing severe labor shortages. This will enable businesses to continue their operations more consistently and efficiently.
In addition to addressing labor shortages, the Thai government is prioritizing the enhancement of protection standards for foreign workers' rights. This agreement will cover welfare and various benefits in accordance with Thai labor law, ensuring that workers are treated fairly and can work safely.
This cooperation marks a significant step in strengthening the relationship between Thailand and Sri Lanka, both economically and socially. The government believes that importing quality labor will have a positive impact on the country's long-term economic growth.
Following this, relevant agencies will expedite the procedures outlined in the MOU to ensure that the labor importation process is as orderly and transparent as possible, for the maximum benefit of both Thai entrepreneurs and workers from Sri Lanka.
