Digital Minister accelerates efforts to attract Chinese tourists, promoting the “Trusted Thailand” initiative and digital payment integration
Mr. Prasert Chantararuangthong, Minister of Digital Economy and Society (MDES), held discussions with senior executives from Sichuan Airlines and Meituan, a major Chinese lifestyle services platform, to promote cooperation in the digital economy and tourism between the two countries.
The primary goal of these discussions is to elevate Thailand's image under the “Trusted Thailand” concept to build confidence among Chinese tourists, focusing on utilizing digital technology to facilitate travel and services, making them safer and more efficient.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has invited leading Chinese payment systems, such as Alipay and WeChat Pay, to integrate their cross-border payment systems more comprehensively in Thailand. This will allow Chinese tourists to make payments through the applications they are familiar with, providing convenience at shops and service providers nationwide.
This collaboration marks a significant step in driving the Thai economy through the tourism and technology sectors. It is expected to help boost the number of Chinese tourists visiting Thailand and elevate the standards of Thailand's digital services to an international level.
