Government pushes 770 healthy menu items, highlighting Thai food Soft Power on the global stage
The Ministry of Public Health, in collaboration with relevant agencies, has launched the "Thai Food Good Health" project to elevate the standards of Thai cuisine into healthy menu options. Over 770 popular Thai dishes from across the country have been selected for recipe adjustments to enhance their nutritional value, catering to the health-conscious trends of consumers both domestically and internationally.
This project focuses on using herbs and high-quality local ingredients as key components to reduce sodium, sugar, and fat content in Thai food without compromising its unique flavors. Additionally, training is being provided to restaurant operators and chefs to ensure they can accurately prepare dishes according to the established health standards.
This initiative is part of the effort to promote Thailand's Soft Power through the food industry, which is a significant national strength. The government is confident that building an image of "Thai food as healthy food" will help attract tourists and increase the value of Thai restaurant businesses in the global market.
Beyond economic benefits, the project also aims to improve the well-being of Thai people by making it easier for the public to access nutritious food in their daily lives. This will help reduce the long-term risk of non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and high blood pressure.
In the future, the project plans to expand to street food vendors and small restaurants nationwide to reach a wider group of consumers, while also developing online channels to allow the public to conveniently check the nutritional information of these healthy menu items.
