Thai government prepares for major bureaucratic reform, aiming to downsize organizations and increase operational efficiency
Currently, the Thai bureaucratic system is facing a significant challenge as public personnel expenditures continue to rise, accounting for 39.5 percent of the total national budget. This has raised concerns regarding cost-effectiveness and long-term budget management.
To address this issue, experts have proposed a reform approach through a 'Mission Audit' of government agencies to determine which tasks are redundant or no longer necessary. The primary goal is to dissolve, merge, or downsize unnecessary departments before considering the reduction of personnel numbers in the future.
This concept focuses on restructuring work processes to be more agile and modern, ensuring that public services are provided as quickly and efficiently as possible. It is expected that this will be pushed as a national policy to create concrete and sustainable change for Thailand.
This reform is considered a crucial step toward reducing the country's budgetary burden and transitioning the Thai bureaucracy into the digital age, which will ultimately benefit overall economic and social development.
