Thailand moves to upgrade rail system, launches 'Tech to Track' project to implement Thai-made innovations
The Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (MHESI) and relevant agencies, has launched the 'Tech to Track' project to elevate the standards and safety of the rail system in Thailand. The initiative focuses on applying technology and innovations developed by Thai people to real-world operations.
This project is a synergy between the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), the Program Management Unit for Competitiveness (PMUC), and the Rail Technology Research and Development Agency (RTRDA) to foster cooperation in developing rail infrastructure that is more modern and safer for all passengers.
In addition to safety improvements, the project aims to create business opportunities for Thai entrepreneurs by encouraging the production and use of locally manufactured equipment or technology. This will help reduce imports and promote sustainable growth for the domestic economy.
Driving innovation in this manner marks a significant step for the Thai transport system, which will help increase service efficiency and build public confidence in the train service, the country's primary mode of mass transit. It is expected that the project will enable Thai entrepreneurs to become more competitive in the international rail technology market in the future.
