A gang of teenagers carried out more than 100 crimes in the grip of the police.
On June 1, a 20-year-old man was violently assaulted in the Wienerberg recreational area located in the Favoriten district of the Austrian capital Vienna. Three teenagers, whose identities were unknown at the time, attacked him with a knife, demanding that he hand over his money. When he refused, they beat him and stole his wallet and belongings.
After the attack, the assailants fled in an unknown direction, while the victim, despite his injuries, managed to reach the nearby Neilreichgasse street with difficulty, where he stopped a driver and asked him to call emergency services. The young man was immediately taken to the hospital, where it was found that he had a broken nose, a severe concussion, and multiple bruises. Despite the immediate search campaign, the perpetrators were not apprehended initially.
The regional office for criminal investigations in Vienna (Southern branch) took over the case, and in the context of parallel investigations conducted by the Western branch regarding car thefts and the trade of stolen property, the identities of the suspects were determined after a few weeks. The criminals made a grave mistake by using the driver's license they stole from the victim when attempting to sell a stolen car.
The suspects are a 14-year-old boy (nationality: Hungary), another who is 17 years old (nationality: Romania), and a third who is 19 years old (residence: Austria). Based on the instructions of the public prosecutor's office in Vienna, two of them were arrested on June 27, while the third was arrested on July 11.
The three are also involved in more than 100 cases of car theft, and they are now in custody in a prison in the capital Vienna.
