Constitutional Court's decision on press advertisements and new domestic weapons
The Constitutional Court's critical annulment decision regarding press organizations and new technological developments in the defense industry stand out today. While the Court limited the authority to cut off official advertisements, domestically produced missiles and laser weapons were introduced to the public.
The Constitutional Court annulled the authority of the Press Advertisement Agency (BİK) to cut off official advertisements given to newspapers and internet news sites. The Court stated that the current law does not clearly define which actions lead to such penalties and that this situation restricts press freedom. This decision aims to prevent the advertisement revenues of media organizations from being cut off for vague reasons.
Alongside this legal development, details of the Tayfun Block-4, Turkey's longest-range missile produced with domestic resources, were shared in the defense industry. Measuring ten meters in length and weighing 7,200 kilograms, this system was introduced as the country's first intercontinental ballistic missile.
As another innovation in the field of defense, the laser weapon system developed by the Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKE) has been made ready for duty against aerial threats. In addition to this system, which offers low-cost and rapid intervention capabilities, Nurol Makina also presented its new NMS-L light armored vehicle, which prioritizes mobility, to the public.
