Severe Earthquakes in Venezuela: Death Toll Rises
Two major earthquakes occurred in Venezuela in short intervals. These tremors, felt in different regions of the country, caused great panic and destruction. According to initial statements made by authorities, the magnitudes of the earthquakes were measured at 7.2 and 7.5.
The fact that the earthquakes occurred consecutively negatively affected the durability of buildings and increased the scale of destruction. Numerous search and rescue teams were dispatched to the region immediately after the tremors. The teams are racing against time to reach citizens trapped under the rubble.
Unfortunately, the number of people who lost their lives in the earthquakes is increasing with every passing hour. According to the latest official data, the death toll has risen to 188. Hundreds of injured people have been taken under treatment in surrounding hospitals. It is reported that there is a high level of congestion in the emergency services of the hospitals.
The earthquakes caused serious damage not only to buildings but also to the region's infrastructure. While electricity and water outages occurred in many cities, problems also arose in communication lines. The government has begun establishing temporary shelter centers for citizens left homeless, and emergency aid supplies have been sent to the region.
The international community is closely monitoring the situation in Venezuela. Many countries and humanitarian aid organizations have announced that they are ready to provide support. While search and rescue efforts continue in the region, it is estimated that it will take a long time for life to return to normal.
