The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has shared the 2014 medical waste data with the public. According to the published report, the total amount of medical waste collected across the country was recorded as 74.5 thousand tons.
It was stated that methods compliant with environmental standards were followed regarding the management of this collected waste. According to the data, a significant portion of the separately collected medical waste, 68 percent, was disposed of in controlled landfill sites.
Proper management of this waste generated by healthcare facilities is of great importance for public health and the prevention of environmental pollution. Controlled landfill methods ensure that the waste is eliminated without harming nature.
