New Regulation from the Ministry of Health: TC Identity Number Era in Cigarette Sales
Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu announced that a significant step will be taken as part of the fight against the use of tobacco products. According to the statement made by the Ministry, the Republic of Turkey identity number will now be required during the sale of cigarettes and similar tobacco products.
It is stated that the primary goal of this new practice is to restrict access to tobacco products, especially for young people and children. Through identity verification, it is aimed to prevent individuals below the legal age limit from purchasing cigarettes. Officials state that this system will play a deterrent role in the fight against tobacco addiction.
Minister Memişoğlu also mentioned other projects aimed at protecting public health. Stating that the "Normal Birth Action Plan" has been launched within this scope, the Minister emphasized that both the fight against tobacco and birth policies are of great importance for raising healthy generations.
It has been reported that work is ongoing regarding when the practice will begin and how the technical details will function. The Ministry of Health plans to inform the public in more detail about the operation of the system in the coming days.
