Medical Waste Management in Turkey: 2014 Data
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has shared the medical waste statistics for the year 2014 with the public. According to the published data, the total amount of medical waste collected across the country was recorded as 74.5 thousand tons.
The management of this waste generated by healthcare facilities is of great importance in terms of environmental health and public safety. According to TurkStat data, a large portion of the separately collected medical waste was disposed of using controlled methods.
The statistics show that 68 percent of the collected medical waste was disposed of in sanitary landfills. This method aims to keep the waste under control without causing harm to the environment or human health.
The data in question constitutes an important reference point for understanding Turkey's infrastructure regarding medical waste management and how such waste is processed. Authorities emphasize that the proper segregation and disposal of such waste are critical for environmental sustainability.
