Medical Waste Management in Turkey: 2014 Data Released
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has shared the medical waste statistics for the year 2014 with the public. According to the published data, the total amount of medical waste collected across the country was recorded as 74.5 thousand tons.
It is of great importance that this waste generated by healthcare facilities is collected using special methods to prevent harm to the environment. According to TurkStat data, a large portion of the separately collected medical waste was disposed of in sanitary landfill sites.
Statistics show that 68 percent of the collected waste was sent to controlled and secure storage areas. This method aims to protect public health by preventing waste from mixing with nature.
Waste management plays a critical role in preventing environmental pollution and building a sustainable future. The regular collection and processing of medical waste in Turkey continues to be an important part of environmental policies.
