Health Expenditures in Turkey Reach Record Levels in 2024
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has shared the health expenditure data for 2024 with the public. According to the newly published report, Turkey's total expenditures in the field of health showed a massive increase compared to the previous year. These data are of great importance in terms of understanding how economic changes in the country are reflected in the health sector.
In 2024, current health expenditures increased by 92.7% compared to 2023. The total expenditure amount was recorded as 2 trillion 186 billion 802 million TL. This figure shows that the budget Turkey allocates to health services has nearly doubled within a single year.
A large portion of the expenditures consists of hospital services, medicines, and treatment costs. Additionally, new investments in the health sector played a significant role in this increase. Projects such as the construction of new hospitals and the renewal of existing medical devices with modern technologies are among the factors that raised the total cost.
Experts state that general price increases and changes in exchange rates are among the primary reasons for this increase. The fact that many medical supplies and medicines are imported from abroad causes costs to rise. However, the efforts of the state and the private sector to increase access to health services also hold a significant place within these expenditures.
In conclusion, the 2024 data prove that the expenditures Turkey has made on its health system have reached massive proportions. These investments, made so that citizens can receive quality health services, seem set to continue holding a central place in the country's social and economic plans.
