Health Data in Turkey: Obesity Rates Draw Attention
Health research data shared by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) provides important information regarding the general health status of the society. These data from 2019 reveal the prevalence of obesity and pre-obesity conditions in particular.
According to the research results, the obesity rate among women was recorded at 24.8 percent. Meanwhile, 30.4 percent of women fall into the pre-obesity category. These figures indicate that more than half of the female population is in a risk group regarding weight control.
For men, the situation presents a different picture. While 17.3 percent of men are defined as obese, the rate in the pre-obesity category stands at 39.7 percent. Experts state that these rates serve as a reminder of the importance of healthy nutrition and regular physical activity once again.
Health professionals state that such data form a basis for steps to be taken to protect public health. Promoting balanced dietary habits and encouraging an active lifestyle play a critical role in preventing future health problems.
