Energy Minister Bayraktar: New Oil Potential Discovered in Diyarbakır
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar made significant statements regarding Turkey's energy production. Minister Bayraktar announced that, as a result of investigations conducted in the Diyarbakır region, a high potential for oil has been identified.
Minister Bayraktar stated that this new field could be much larger than the oil reserves found at Mount Gabar in Şırnak. According to estimates, the potential in Diyarbakır could reach two or three times the production at Gabar. This is seen as a major step toward Turkey's domestic energy production goals.
In recent years, Turkey has accelerated its oil and natural gas exploration efforts to reduce foreign dependency. Successful production activities initiated in Gabar had already significantly increased the country's daily oil production capacity. With the new discoveries in Diyarbakır coming online, it is expected that the burden of Turkey's energy imports will be eased.
The Ministry announced that drilling and analysis activities in the region will continue in accordance with the planned schedule. Experts state that the transition of these new fields to full-capacity production will contribute significantly to Turkey's energy independence strategy in the long term.
