The Turkish Navy's Veteran Frigate TCG Yavuz Becomes a Museum
The TCG Yavuz frigate, one of the significant ships that served the Turkish Naval Forces for many years, has taken on a new role following its retirement. Having protected Turkish waters and served the navy for 39 years, this historic vessel will now welcome visitors as a museum ship.
A special ceremony was held for the ship at the Gölcük Shipyard. Maritime officials, retired military personnel, and numerous guests attended the event. During the speeches, the emphasis was placed on the TCG Yavuz's place in Turkish maritime history, and it was noted that the ship will now serve to pass on maritime culture to younger generations.
Throughout its time in service, the TCG Yavuz participated in numerous exercises and played a vital role in the modernization process of the Turkish Navy. Now, the ship's living quarters, technical equipment, and historical texture have been specially arranged to allow visitors to examine Turkish maritime history up close.
The museum ship project aims to be an important destination for both those interested in military history and maritime enthusiasts. Opened to visitors in Gölcük, the TCG Yavuz will contribute to the preservation of Turkish maritime heritage as a structure that carries the traces of the past.
