Türkiye Tops the Global List in Cigarette Consumption
A new study conducted on cigarette use in Turkey has revealed striking results. Chest Diseases Specialist Prof. Dr. Şevket Özkaya announced that Turkey ranks first worldwide in terms of cigarette consumption.
According to the data shared by Prof. Dr. Özkaya, the average daily cigarette consumption per capita in Turkey has been determined to be 17.1 cigarettes. This figure has placed Turkey at the top of the list of countries with the highest cigarette consumption globally.
Experts point out that this high consumption rate poses serious risks to public health. The increase in cigarette use leads to the widespread prevalence of chronic health issues, particularly lung diseases and heart conditions.
Health organizations emphasize the importance of support programs for citizens who wish to quit smoking. Experts note that the body begins to recover shortly after quitting smoking and remind the public that this habit must be abandoned for a healthy life.
