Cyberattack on hospitals in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district
In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, several medical facilities are currently experiencing major IT problems. The LUP clinics in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district have become the target of a cyberattack. As the district administration officially announced, several locations of the clinic group are affected by this incident.
The hospitals' IT specialists noticed the attack early and reacted immediately. To ensure data security and prevent the further spread of malware, many systems and internet connections were shut down as a precaution. The locations in Hagenow, Ludwigslust, and Parchim are primarily affected.
Despite the technical restrictions, operations in the clinics continue. Those responsible emphasized that patient care is the top priority. Emergencies continue to be admitted, although there may be delays in administrative processes and scheduled appointments. In some cases, examinations must be postponed because access to digital files is currently not possible.
Cybersecurity experts and the police have already started investigations. They are now investigating who is behind the attack and whether sensitive data was stolen. Such attacks on critical infrastructure, which includes hospitals, have increased worldwide in recent years. Often, the perpetrators demand a ransom to unlock the blocked systems.
It is currently unclear how long it will take to resolve the disruptions. The clinics are working at full speed to safely reboot their IT systems. The district asks citizens for their patience and promises to provide regular updates on new developments.
