Ukraine needs an additional $27 billion for defense by the end of 2026
The Government of Ukraine has appealed to international partners with a request for additional funding in the amount of $27 billion. These funds are necessary to meet the needs of the defense and security sector until the end of 2026. The request was formulated in view of the ongoing hostilities and the need to maintain state stability under wartime conditions.
According to Forbes.ua, this money is to be directed toward the purchase of modern weaponry, the maintenance of military equipment, and the provision of social payments for military personnel. Financial assistance from allies remains critically important for the Ukrainian army to effectively resist the enemy on the battlefield.
Ukraine's international partners, including European Union countries and the United States, are currently reviewing this request. They have previously provided significant financial and military support, but the scale of the war requires constant replenishment of resources. Negotiations regarding the mechanisms for allocating these funds will continue over the coming months.
In addition to military needs, Ukraine continues to work on stabilizing the economy. The government emphasizes that foreign aid allows it to direct its own tax revenues primarily toward funding the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This helps the country maintain financial stability despite difficult circumstances.
Securing an additional $27 billion will be an important step in strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. It is expected that final decisions regarding the funding will be made following consultations with representatives of international financial institutions and the governments of donor countries.
