Head of SAPO reports systemic pressure on judges by the SBU
The Head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO), Oleksandr Klymenko, has reported serious obstacles in the work of anti-corruption bodies. According to him, representatives of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) are exerting systemic pressure on judges who preside over corruption cases.
According to information from Transparency International Ukraine, the methods of this pressure are quite diverse. In particular, it involves threats against judges' relatives, as well as the use of mobilization mechanisms and the revocation of draft exemptions to influence decisions made in courtrooms.
Oleksandr Klymenko emphasized that such actions create a dangerous precedent for the independence of the judicial system. The main goal of such interference, in the opinion of the SAPO head, is an attempt to influence the outcomes of cases involving high-ranking officials and high-profile corruption crimes.
This statement has caused significant resonance in the legal and public spheres of Ukraine. Experts note that judicial independence is a key condition for the effective fight against corruption, so any pressure on members of the judiciary requires a thorough investigation and legal assessment.
Currently, the situation remains under the close scrutiny of anti-corruption activists and Ukraine's international partners. The public is awaiting an official response from the relevant state authorities regarding the reported facts of pressure on the judicial branch of government.
