Volodymyr Zelenskyy: holding elections during the war is impossible

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made an official statement regarding the possibility of holding elections in the country. According to the head of state, organizing an electoral process during active hostilities is impossible and dangerous for the country.

The President emphasized that holding elections under current conditions would be a real "tsunami" for the state. The main obstacles are the issue of citizen safety, the impossibility of ensuring voting in temporarily occupied territories, and the difficulties in accessing polling stations for military personnel who are at the front.

Furthermore, the electoral process requires significant financial resources, which are currently critically needed for defense needs and supporting the army. Under martial law, the state is focused on countering aggression and protecting sovereignty, which makes conducting large-scale political campaigns inappropriate.

Currently, a legal regime of martial law is in effect in Ukraine, which provides for the restriction of certain constitutional rights, including those regarding the holding of parliamentary and presidential elections. The country's political leadership has repeatedly emphasized that elections will take place only after the security situation allows for them to be held transparently and democratically.
