Ukrainian metallurgists demand market protection from Russian steel
The Metinvest company has appealed to the Ukrainian government with a request to accelerate anti-dumping investigations regarding steel pipe imports. According to the manufacturer, products from Turkey made using Russian metal are entering the Ukrainian market. This creates unequal conditions for domestic enterprises operating under wartime conditions.
Representatives of the metallurgical industry note that the use of raw materials from the aggressor country allows foreign manufacturers to significantly lower prices. This strategy, known as dumping, makes Ukrainian products less competitive in their own market. As a result, Ukrainian plants are losing orders and reducing production volumes.
Experts emphasize that protecting the domestic market is critically important for Ukraine's economy. Metallurgy remains one of the key industries that provides foreign currency earnings and jobs. Therefore, restricting the import of goods that are directly or indirectly linked to Russian resources is a matter of national security.
Currently, the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine is considering the possibility of introducing protective tariffs. It is expected that the results of the investigation will help stop the flow of cheap products and support Ukrainian manufacturers. The government must find a balance between a free market and the need to protect its own industry during difficult times.
