Verkhovna Rada may introduce smartphone voting during air raids
Ukrainian parliamentarians are discussing the possibility of changing the voting procedure in the Verkhovna Rada. Due to frequent air raids, the work of deputies in the session hall is often interrupted, which slows down the adoption of important state decisions. As an alternative, it is proposed to use special software for voting via mobile phones while in a shelter.
According to the people's deputies, the safety of meeting participants is the main priority. During large-scale air threats, working in the parliament building becomes dangerous, so deputies are forced to go down to bomb shelters. Currently, the technical capabilities for holding a full-fledged meeting in a shelter are limited, which creates difficulties for the prompt adoption of laws.
The idea of remote voting is sparking debate among experts and politicians. The main issue remains cybersecurity and protecting the system from potential hacker attacks. Developers must ensure that every vote is counted correctly and that the system is reliably protected from outside interference.
Currently, this issue is at the discussion stage. Legislators must study all risks and technical requirements before implementing such changes. If the initiative is supported, it could significantly change the format of the Ukrainian parliament's work under martial law, ensuring the continuity of the legislative process despite any threats.
