Zelenskyy names condition for ending strikes on Russian oil refineries
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has made an important statement regarding the strategy for protecting the Ukrainian energy system. According to him, Ukraine is ready to stop attacks on Russian oil refineries if the Russian Federation ceases its strikes on Ukraine's critical infrastructure facilities.
Over the past few months, Ukraine has regularly used drones to attack Russian oil facilities. These actions are a response to the constant shelling of Ukrainian cities and power plants, which leads to power outages and destruction. The goal of such measures is to reduce the aggressor's economic capabilities and weaken its military potential.
The President emphasized that de-escalation of the conflict in the energy sector is possible only on the condition of reciprocity. If Russia stops its terror against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, it will create the basis for ending retaliatory strikes. Currently, the situation remains tense, as both sides continue to use energy facilities as part of their military strategy.
Ukraine's international partners are closely monitoring the development of events. The issue of energy system security is critically important for the survival of the Ukrainian economy and the well-being of its citizens, especially in the conditions of a prolonged war. Further steps will depend on whether the Russian side agrees to negotiations regarding the cessation of energy terror.
