Former Pentagon official: why increasing Patriot missile production is critical for Ukraine
Former U.S. Department of Defense official Laura Cooper emphasized the importance of ramping up the production of interceptor missiles for Patriot air defense systems. According to her, this issue is one of the keys to ensuring the security of Ukrainian skies and protecting civilian infrastructure.
Laura Cooper, who was long responsible for military aid to Ukraine, explained that stable supplies of ammunition for Patriot systems are of crucial importance. Without a sufficient number of missiles, the effectiveness of protection against Russian air attacks could decrease significantly, creating additional risks for Ukrainian cities.
The expert also drew attention to preparations for the upcoming winter. She emphasized that Russian forces continue to use missile terror as a tool of pressure, so the timely replenishment of air defense stocks is a strategic task not only for Ukraine but also for its international partners.
In addition to the technical aspects of aid, Cooper commented on the shift in sentiment in the U.S. regarding Russia. She noted that American society is increasingly understanding the threat posed by the Kremlin's actions, which influences support for further aid packages for the Ukrainian army.
In conclusion, the former official stressed that a lack of proper support and a shortage of defensive assets could lead to a situation that would be disadvantageous for Ukraine. Therefore, the international community must continue its efforts to strengthen the Ukrainian air defense system.
