Court sentences Member of Parliament Oleksandr Yurchenko in bribery case

The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine has reached a verdict in the case of Member of Parliament Oleksandr Yurchenko. He was found guilty of soliciting and receiving an illicit benefit. According to the court's decision, the politician will spend 9 years in prison with confiscation of property.

This story began back in 2020. At that time, law enforcement officers exposed the MP for receiving a bribe in the amount of 13,000 dollars. In exchange for this money, Yurchenko promised to introduce amendments to legislation concerning the processing of solid household waste. In total, he demanded 200,000 dollars for lobbying business interests.

The case caused significant public resonance, as it involved a representative of the government. The investigation lasted several years, during which expert examinations and witness interrogations were conducted. The judges carefully examined the evidence provided by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau.

In addition to imprisonment, the court also banned Yurchenko from holding certain government positions for three years after his release. The convicted person will also have a portion of his property confiscated, which is a standard procedure for cases of this type.

At present, the verdict has not yet entered into legal force, so the defense team has the right to file an appeal. This court decision is an important signal to Ukrainian society regarding the fight against corruption among high-ranking officials.
