Medical cannabis-based medication used in Ukraine for the first time
An important event in the healthcare sector has taken place in Ukraine. For the first time, a patient battling cancer has received official treatment with a medical cannabis-based medication. This became possible after the country passed relevant legislation allowing the use of such drugs for medical purposes.
Medical cannabis has a specific composition that helps alleviate the condition of patients. Doctors note that such drugs are effective in treating chronic and neuropathic pain. Furthermore, they contribute to reducing muscle spasticity and help patients cope with nausea, which often occurs during complex treatment.
The use of medical cannabis is strictly controlled by the state. Such medications are prescribed exclusively by doctors when there are appropriate medical indications. This is not a method of self-medication, but rather part of professional therapy aimed at improving the quality of life for patients with serious diagnoses.
The implementation of this practice is an important step for Ukrainian medicine. It allows for aligning treatment standards in Ukraine with those in Europe, where medical cannabis has long been used to help patients. Experts hope that access to such drugs will help many Ukrainians reduce their suffering and more easily endure complex medical procedures.
