Record Heat in Poland and Traffic Jams to Berlin
Abnormal heat in Europe is creating health risks and complicating logistics in countries where many Ukrainians are residing. A historic temperature record has been set in Poland, while in Germany, traffic towards Berlin has been paralyzed due to road damage.
When planning trips to Germany or staying in Poland, take into account the extreme temperatures that are destroying infrastructure and threatening lives. A record 40.5°C was recorded in Poland—the highest figure in the history of observations. Due to the heat in Germany, the road surface on the A2 autobahn (the main highway) deformed, completely halting traffic toward the capital. Drivers should plan detour routes in advance due to possible long delays.
In addition to transport problems, the high temperatures have already led to the deaths of about 1,000 people in Europe in just the last few days. The heat poses the greatest danger to people over the age of 65—they account for 85% of all deaths. Medics urge people to limit their time outdoors during peak hours and pay special attention to the health of elderly relatives.
